That's amazing, what are your plans when the royals get to adulthood though and the heat mats become dangerous? Or do we not have the problem of fat snakes sat on heat when the rack system is in play? (I have literally no idea what the pro's and con's are of a rack system all I know is I need one to fit more snakes in lol)

The heat mats I brought for the 50 l rubs are going to be on the left or right hand side
And the ones I have in there now are at the back of the rack

Mats are under the rubs and are stated and all rubs will have thermometers on

Dont get me wrong if I could have all 6 in vivs I would it's just more practical to use a rack

Nice!

I always understood there was no danger of thermal blocking if the rubs were on top of the mats, as there is an air space between mat surface and rub floor; the danger is when the mat is in the enclosure with the snake?

Argos can be pretty useful for rep keepers; one of their TV stands is a metre in length, bears either 25 or 50 kilos' weight (can't remember which) and even comes in the same beech etc as vivs. At £40 approx that's a hell of a lot cheaper than the conventional viv cabinet and to my mind a lot more practical too.

Nice rack MrsA82 looks great, can I ask have you got any of that reflective stuff (you can put it behind rads) under your heat matts? I only ask cause even with a stat the build up of heat on the wood could in extreme circumstances cause it to self conbust.

Sorry Mrs the mat doesn't explode lol the wood can self ignite because of the build up of heat as I said in my last post it is a very extreme thing to happen but there is always that possibility, if you look on the D.I.Y section there is a guide to building a rack using conti board and a heat cable instead of heat mats, and they use aluminium tape under the heat cable to reflect the heat back and stop a build up of heat in the conti board.

I have never heard of wood storing heat mat heat to the point of self combustion been that the approx ignition temperature of wood is over 270oC. Its physically improbable that a heat mat could cause this to occur without mat failure and even then the mat itself would have to catch fire to get the heat anywhere near hot enough to ignite the frame. You've nothing to worry about Louise.

Hi, Stumpy, if you're having difficulty entering the competition, email your pic to Kelf, and he'll put it up for you.

(Me, I can't even get on to photobucket ...)
