Again a just wondered post

What method of feeding do you do to temp yours

Some take without doing anything to the rats
Others like the rats/mouse head dipped in boiling hot water then dabbed dry

Also what time do you find best to feed yours

I like to start about 8pm or 8:30pm if eastenders Is on ;)

I take mine out in the morning and put them in a old ice cream tub, leave them on a window sill in the sun. When i get back from work tey ar defrosted, warm and not wet. Strike everytime. Goes for all 3 snakes.

Defrost from about 6pm, in a metal dish. Put the rat & dish into the vivarium at about 11pm and go to bed. Duke usually takes it but only if nobody is around to see.

I get home about 6 from work, calculate the amount of rats I need and place in a small container, then I put this on top of the viv, sitting about the heater area to naturally defrost. I prefer this to the warming in water as they stay firmer and theres less blood and guts.

My viv temps drop at 9, so thats the time I normally feed them. I have some RUBs that are designated as feed boxes and nothing else. One at a time I remove the snake, place in the feed box, and just offer the rat via long tweezers. If they are going to eat, its rare that I will be still waiting after 20 seconds. I do no other prep work.

Its a strike feed every time, I never have needed to leave the rat laying around.

The rats go into the fridge in a plastic bag to defrost overnight; in the morning I give them a few hours on the warm top of the fishtank, and then use a small hairdryer to warm up the rat's nose.

I've never seen Surahi eat yet. She demands total privacy. Perhaps one day I'll be able to watch her... Saada's not much better. I used to feed Shahi in a small rub; that was his routine since the day he fed from his climbing branch and accidentally chomped on a silk leaf. However, since his fast, he's disliked the rub. If I've left the prey in his viv for him, he's very pointedly gone up on his climbing branch and waited for his meal to come to him, so that's what we do now, minus the silk leaves. I get the rat ready, get Shahi out of his hide and point him at his branch. I grab tongs and rat and Shahi's ready and waiting.

A couple of my corns are the same - how come snakes seem to enjoy feeding upside down?

Defrosted naturally then in a sandwich bag in hot water to heat up without getting wet is how we've always fed our snakes...seems to be working for baby spider too, two out of two feeds successful so far!

depending on what size of rat, if its a small rat for sully i put it in the fridge the night b4 or if its the fluffs for cilla and clover i put them in the fridge in the morning. then when i get home from work i place it on top of one of the vivs for a couple of hours. i place kitchen roll in the vivs, appart from cilla she gets herself wrapped up in it as she is a strike feeder. i know its not ideal but i always watch her to make sure she doesn't eat any substrate

i feed mine about 8pm 9pm. i warm up the rats with a hairdryer. i have to feed cilla first otherwise she will strike the glass, its quite a sight watching her eat her strike is so much faster than my royals. clover will come out of her hide and look at the rat as will sully, i have to place his infront of the hide he is in. but neither of the royals will eat until i have left the room and left them to it

We usually take the mouse out a couple of hours before feeding and defrost on top of the viv and leave it to warm up on there too. We always feed just as we're going to bed so Dio's got a nice dark, quite room to eat. The mouse is always put ontop of his bark hide under his lamp.

Take them out the freezer and leave inn plastic bowl for the day then at about ten or eleven i'll put them out and toast them up with a hairdryer until they feel nice and warm then just offer.

Lilith only eats if they've discarded in her rub she doesn't strike.

Cleopatra won't approach it but will strike if you bring the prey to her, she'll then drag it in a hide before eating.

Diablo will charge at the pray, miss it, charge at your hand, miss it, eventually he'll get it and coil when I tap it on his nose.

Scar has only just started feeding but he's going for the lilith technique, strange for a wild caught.

Anubis strikes a few times before striking then coiling.

Defrost rat at 6ish and heat up the head with hairdryer at about 9pm, then if shes in fussy mode i rub it with a mouse, if she is eating well i strike feed with tongs. She often frightens herself with the strike, drops it and i end up leaving it and she takes it later.

i get all me food out of a morning and defrost during the day at room temp, then about 8pm(ish) i feed all those that are due (and still eating, lol!) i've got a couple that will eat if left overnight, for my strike feeders i use a desk lamp with a 50W heat-glo bulb to warm up food for bout 10 seconds and they take it off tongs straight away (usually :D) ps, i never feed when its too light outside.
