I'm not sure if this is normal or not but Dio's been blue for nearly 3 weeks now and he still hasn't shed. He's dull and his skins really rough with loose scales but his eyes haven't gone blue yet.
Last time he shed he was only like this for a week before he shed. Is this an unusually long time to take to shed? |

im not very good on the record keeping front, lazyness if im honest. my pastel just shed and from seeing her blue to shed was a week. in contrast though when my adult male last shed from seeing him in blue to shed i think it was just over 2 weeks

| What do you mean by loose scales? Duke went a bit rough feeling before he went blue but I don't think it was as long as three weeks. Am I remembering rightly that Dio had mites and has been getting bathed regularly? |

| You can see some of his scales are a bit loose especially around his belly. Yeah he's still got the mites though not as bad as they were but still the odd small one. We're still spraying him with the mite off stuff and give him the odd bath but not as often as we were. I've put his water bowl under his bulb to try to raise humidity and speed it along. |

| Those mites do damage the skin and they lift scales as they push under them to feed so its possible its just that damage bringing on a shed. |

Hi, see the health section, page 4 (sorry don't know how to post link.) There's a thread on there: 'Phantom Shed' by BlueDragon - both she and Hodgie have had experience of snakes seeming to go into shed and then either waiting ages or not shedding.

| Thanks BATS. It's very frustrating as we don't know whether to feed him or not. We've fed him twice since he went blue the first time he ate but on sat he refused. I just want him to hurry up so we can handle him a bit more as he's spending most of his time in his hollow log. |

| Yeah, at times like this they just want to do their own thing, and we have to forego the pleasure of their company. You could always put a meal in the viv with him next Saturday if his eyes haven't gone blue, just to see if he'll take, but if not, worry not - he'll make up for it once this is over. |
