He is drop feeding which I am happy with except for it's invtfe middle of the night when I ain't watching.

How could I get him to strike feed only fir the reason of safety around eating substrate. So I can watch he doesn't that is. I am placing the rat on his hide which has a decent surface area but if he knocks it off before eating it is may concern

Congrats on his feeding!

They're all different, and if he's feeding well for you I should let him do his own thing. I have strike feeders who go totally loopy and would drag the prey everywhere; actually it's easier to control the movements of a drop feeder, when I come to think of it lol.

One thing you could do is, a couple of hours before feeding, so as to let him settle down before his meal, is to put down kitchen roll, newspaper, a pet feeding mat, anything, to cover a wide area of substrate. Then leave his meal on that for him to find. Another thing I do (with a corn that loops the loop) is to put her meal into a small rub with a lid and a hole in the side. She goes in there after the prey, coils, and has to stay in there until she's eaten and disentangled herself lol.

Hope this helps and hope he continues to feed well - good lad!

Yeah one you think of it like that it makes more sense with drop feeding over striking. He is taken off one of his hide which is a large cave with a flat top so I will leave him do his thing I think

That is a cracking idea.
