When I first got Chepi. Her owner said she hasn't fed for a couple of weeks (coming out of winter) she was on Jumbo mice, so I tried her with one of them after she settled in, but she didn't take it. So I thought to try her with a lrg rat weaned the week after (April 28th) and she too that. But since then, she hasn't fed, I've reduced the weaned size to small, she did seem slightly Interested, and was quite protective around it, it was at the opening of her house, and everytime I walked past, she would come out slightly, lie on it a bit, and just stare, quite creepy tbh. I'm trying her again Friday, and if she still doest take. I'll to what I did with Wendigo which got her to eat. Rat pinkies =D So..... Wish me look.
Last time I weighted her, she was 903 grams, I havent weighed for a while. So I'll weigh her later. She's pooed too.
ETA. Just weighed her and she's now 840 and she's all dull and blue, so she's going through a shed xD.
Quick update on Wendy too. She's still strike feeding everytime, small rat weaner. |

As long as she is pooing fine, and not losing weight rapidly, then I wouldn't worry. It's not uncommon for Royals to not feed for months on end, but it's nothing to worry about unless she starts really losing weight. But just a few things you could try if you're that worried about her eating again. Warming up the rat, and making the head a bit hotter than the body (creates more of a point of interest to strike at) Braining the rat (if you're not sure how to do this, I'll explain in my next reply) Maybe try switching back to mice if that's what she was used to? Make sure her temps are all perfect. Also Royals are extremely private eaters I find, so if she seems to strike and drop it... Next time, take her hide out, put the rat/mouse under it, and put the hide back on top, she may feel more comfortable eating at night in her hide. Good luck, hope this helps |
