I have a young spider which I have had for nearly a month now.
After her being here for the first 5 days, I offered a rat pup which she took and ate. The shop I got her from had said she was eating 2 pups per sitting every 5 days or so.
I have so far only managed to get one pup down her as she is refusing all meals. A week and a half ago she had a real bad shed so I upped the hudmity and have kept it up since and now all skin is off.
Her temps are fine. 90f in the hot end and around 85 in the cool.
She has planty of hides, hasn't been over handled, especially in the days leading up to the food offering. I have tried warming up, braining and leaving it with her overnight. I am ready to start pulling my hair out!
She seems to be a good health, very active ect but this is really getting me down.
Should a young snake suddenly stop eating like this?

I do like heating the head of the rat up seems to work good
But sometimes they are fussy buggers

Try dipping the pups head in very hot water then dry the head with paper towel
Touch th pups head to see it's not really hot then offer
If she don't take it try again in 5 days time

It's all about getting to know what your royal likes

My albino only like to Feed in the dark but will strike of course I have a little light to see what I'm doing
But as you see they know what they like and what's how it is

Good luck and keep us updated

Thanks, I literally just attempted to feed agin with no joy. Leaving her for a few days with her RUB covered over and will try that.
Fussy isn't the word! She seems healthy and alert and active so I am trying not to worry but it is frustrating when my corns are never any hassel lol.

You're right on there matey! most of mine will only eat after the lights have been out for at least an hour and warmed up prey too...

I keep a desk lamp with a 50W red heat lamp for feeding time so that i have enough light to see what i'm doing & to heat the food.

Most of mine, especially charlotte and buzz will only strike at pre-warmed prey. With one of these bulbs I literally hole the rat against the bulb with the tongs for 5-10seconds to create a 'hot-spot' for the snake to home in on ; a quick finger touch to make sure its not too hot and they will take it almost 99% of the time.

Once when I had to offer 'cold' food (no bulb) they all turned their noses up?! fussy devils!! just a word to the wise if you use this idea - defrost 'em thoroughly on kitchen tissue or something similar, don't put wet fur on a hot bulb cos it'll pop! I found that out once when I didn't notice the wet patch...
