Hi,

I understand all the equipment needed, but I have had conflicting advice regarding bringing the baby home.

I assumed it important to have the viv set up and ready, but the store assured ( or tried to) that its so quick to set up that you can take snake and equipment at the same time..is that true?

It would certainly be easier if that's the case as its an 85mile round trip.

Cheers

lol he's giving me a headache already and not even here yet

I am a complete novice myself but if you think about it logically, the snake does not need to be at the exact temp all the time otherwise there would be no cool end and we would never get them out for handling so should be fine x

Your store is right, it's a quick set up. Make sure you keep him warm in the car though as by the time you get home, he'll be cooling down, so get your heat into the viv first, a hide and some water. The decs and other stuff can go in later if need be. Then leave him alone for a few days to settle in.

Ideally you want to have everything setup before the snake arrives, this makes sure you have the right temps set and all you would need to do is put the snake in the faun and leave him to it. It also allows you to check that the housing is setup corrctly and all the equipment actually works.

Setting the temps can be a major pain as its not just a quick 2 minute job, it will take a good few hours to set the temps(ours took days to settle the temps down) and monitor them to make sure everything is fine and dandy.

Saying that setting up when you get the snake can be done but not really ideal incase there is an equipment failure somewhere.

I setup all my stuff before hand,Gives temps a chance to settle, gives me time to make adjustments.

Things can go wrong, bulb might be underpowered, guard might not fit,stat/equipment might fail.I've had a stat not work first time,But had a spare.

You said baby,is it a viv or a rub your setting up?

Thanks GMac, boom for your replies,

I have a faunarium, got from pets at home..18" if that of plastic.
The baby is 3 months old.
I do keep the room he'll be in at a constant 70 degrees so that should help.

Think my post was a little misleading. Sorry. Of course you need to get the temps right, but I was thinking about how quick it was to put everything 'in' so to speak, lol.

So its just a faunarium and heatmat, stat etc?How long before you go pick him up?As you might beable to get the setup/items cheaper online, then from a shop.

Then have it all setup and ready to go,before you pick him up.

Yeah is order a mat and stat from eBay, along with any decor you fancy. I found it a lot cheaper than the local shop we first went to for our corn.

Then you can get everything set up before you collect your baby.

Oh and don't forget a digital thermometer.
