I really didn't mean to buy another snake, but ...for a long time I've fancied another pituophis and now I have chance of a cb11 northern pine snake, male, bred locally and reasonably priced ...how can I resist?

All the pine snakes I've googled have been black/grey/white but I'm told this one's more creamy/olive. Can't wait to see him. He's also got a laid back temperament, unlike my fiery Ziska.

I think his name will be Shadrach. No pics at the moment alas, but there will be on Monday when I pick him up.

Can't wait!!!!

LOL GMac, yes if that kilt blows any higher ...oopsHope the gales die down soon; it's forecast, fingers crossed.

Thanks Mystra - yes I know I've no self control lol! - the name, I wanted something vaguely in keeping with his American homeland (Ziska is called after San Francisco, or the German version of Francesca - Franziska; also the novel 'Ziska'.) For him, I suddenly thought of the biblical names rural Americans can often traditionally have. There were Seth, Salem, Solomon - and then Shadrach, but in fact, Shadrach is older; it means 'commanded by Aku' - Aku is a Babylonian moon god. So you were right about the god name connection.

wow, sounds very cool! Just made me picture those big tree creatures from Lord of the Rings... it just sounds so tree-esque and i have no idea why!

So, commanded by the Moon God... will he be howling at the full moon!? :D

Lol, I'm still feeling a tad guilty - I'd been eyeing the ad for weeks and telling myself, No, Lil, but ...another pit, and only £30 too, and I've got all the gear already. He's six months old and a big lad by the sound - well pit hatchlings always are ...Worth suffering the hour's bus trip to Bradford and back; meeting the breeder in the Interchange there, so Shadrach will go into a polybox and be in the warm apart from the short walk from Wakefield bus station - hope to have the little guy home and have pics posted by Monday teatime.

Thanks Sultan - I nearly called him 'Silas' which means 'forest-dweller' as in their natural habitat they like woods and living in burrows beneath tree roots - if he's anything like Ziska he'll need extra deep aspen to dig in; Ziska rarely uses her hides and has a tunnel system in the aspen where she sleeps. But when I saw the name 'Shadrach' I knew that was the one. Pituophis are interesting snakes, much 'wilder' in behaviour than royals and corns, but still tractable once you know them.

Wellll ....it's funny you should say that ...

I did realise, when I got Shiva, no 12, that no 13 would be imminent (with me being a Pagan that's a kind of perfect number for the snakey population.)

Only it isn't a fwc I've fallen in love with, but this. If I had the space, and if these critters are available in the UK, this would be no 14 and it would complete the pit trio as it's a bull snake.

I mean ...breathtaking - 8' of perfection!!
