the last couple of nights my female royal has been mega active, normally she just pokes her head out and checks whats going on then goes back into her hide. now shes all over exploring the place. this is nice, however she seems to have a thing about the stat probe and will just stop on top of it and lie under the lamp. the lamp obviously goes into overdrive because shes on the probe and its reading cold lol does anyone else have this problem? iv shifted the probe about 8 times now and she keep finding it!

it was quite funny. i saw her sat on it so i moved the probe out from under her and the lamp went out completely. i went out for a ciggy and was watching thru the window and saw her shuffle round and re-find it as the bulb slowly worked back up to max chat again. she just looked at me as if to say 'really? did you honestly think you could hide it from me?' |

I clip my probes to the lower front panel beneath the viv window ...but Shahi has STILL been known to obscure his probe. Thing is, he must have been having a good old bask in his warm hide ...because the bulb went OUT! I was sort of going, whaaaat???? But he must have been so nice and toasty that the probe decided the heat needed turning down lol.
In his first viv, following the instructions on the first dimmer stat I purchased, I, like Blackskull, had the probe hanging from the viv ceiling and this worked very well. He never managed to mess about with it.
Made me laugh though, the way she's so obviously fixated on her stat probe ...the mind boggles! |

My probe is directly under the ceramic bulb, Duke does this every night. I don't panic, the bulb I use doesn't get too far over 35oC and as the snake is been heated by the bulb his body temp rises and that is picked up by the probe he is now sat on and that will still prevent him getting too hot, though they aren't glued to the floor if they get too hot they will move. |

Tig used to do that sometimes too and I was so worried he'd burn himself. So in the end I stuck the probe on the back wall of the viv near the floor (and under the bulb) but not so near than he could still block it. I did try and hook it somewhere but he'd just pull it back down with his bulk! But with it stuck flat he never managed to block it that way. |
