Hi guys, I'm getting my 1st royal in about a week, she's about 4 yrs old, is in a 4 ft viv, and is 3.5-4 ft long. I know currently she has a heat mat and the substrate is some sort of bark chippings(I think). I would preferably change both. I would like to ditch the mat and replace with ir bulb,I've heard terrible stories about thermal blocking. And I'd like to replace the substrate with aspen. Is it ok to change these things? She's obviously used to the mat and chippings.and don't want to stress her out. Cheers, Matt. |

I think you'll be perfectly ok to change her setup. I've often set up vivs for new snakes differently (and sometimes I haven't known what their previous setup has been anyway)and they've been fine.
Congrats on the new girl! |

for the reasons of thermal blocking you really have to change the mat as you have recognised, as for the substrate change away neither of these changes should stress the snake. |
