He's 3 months old, looks in fine condition but isn't eating much.

We brought him home yesterday, he has a 4' vivarium. He is a little darling, very friendly and curiou, but today he onlt ate 4 crickets and him take one bite of broccoli.

Is it just that he hasn't settled in yet?
I am worried.

Thanks

As Chrisc says the babies can be a pain to eat their greens I found using the florrets was best along with grated butternut squash, as for the crickets between three and six months try feeding three/ four times a day if you can and only give as much as it will eat in about 10/15 minutes, then six to twelve months reduce to 2/3 feeds again as much as it will eat in 10/15 minutes, and as long as the crickets are gut loaded this will be enough for it to grow healthily, then after twelve months the ratio of live/greens swaps to more greens and less live hope that helps.

Thanks Chris, madd :)

Last night he gave me a sleepless night lol before lights out he hid behind his plants (took ages to see his tail) then this morning a while after lights back he appeared proud as punch sitting on the bamboo log. Hubby hung his ivy and I took him out..today he just wants to explore he jumped off my lap to mooch around the landing carpet..I was sitting on the floor :) and now he's climbing the ivy. He ate two crickets, I left 3 in for him but the lil monster is too busy playing atm!

Nice one but be carefull not to leave any live food in over night cause at best they will bug him but at worse they may actually feed on him

Janie have you been on “My bearded dragon” web site. I had slash first and went on their web site very friendly and informative still go back to fine bit out and reassurance especially at burmation time.
As I said I got slash also known as bash he is 3 in the summer and I can tell you getting him to eat his green is still a night mare it’s like having kids again.
The best thing is just keep persevering with the veg mix and match and you'll fine some thing he will eat.
Totally agree with Reptilemadd don't leave crickets in with him, locust are safer as do not attack the beardie, plus they really are silent other then when they go crunch.

Thanks everybody :)

A brief update, yesterday I gave him fresh coriander and I think he ate it all. Today I bought curly kale and watercress and a box of small mealworms..I know he likes those cos he took one out of my hand while he was sitting on it. So tomorrow he can have his greens and a crushed raspberry with a few worms to make it tempting.
I got him a tub of hoppers, try them in the morning :)

Tom i'll have a look at that website..thanks and having kids again? Sheesh you are right tho lol only had him 3 days and I love him, he's such a little cutie hopping on to my hand to come out to be snuggled.

I'll post two pics later of him playing peek-a-boo in his plant and perched on my daughter's head lol

Young bearded dragons will rarely eat their greens. 70% of their diet is livefood 30% greens when young and balances out as they get older. Then when adult they will eat more green than livefood.

Hi guys, thanks:)

I think I have spoiled him lol..I watched him eat two fair sized pieces of Curly Kale..but there is no way he'll accept crickets. I got hoppers, he sits in the tub as soon as I lift the lid to grab a couple, but some have got big and I hate em lol I also bought a tub of silk worms, he'll eat those..goes mad for mini meal worms, but I only let him have 5 a day.

I have ordered 50 butterworms, but they cost a small fortune, still if he likes them..
He is a cheeky lil tyke but I loves him :)

Ooo and if he doesn't eat them they'll hatch out into something like this ...

http://ukmoths.org.uk/show.php?bf=161

Beaut! Although they're only supposed to be down south, found one in Wakefield once.

Errm sorry, hope you like moths, I love all creepy crawlies - when I was married it was me who had to rescue the spider in the bath. Lol.

Gimli sounds to be doing really well. Looks a right little character.

Ooops sorry, I LOVE moths, the bigger the better ...from being a kid I've been obsessed by creepy crawlies. The only things I really don't care for are those daddylonglegs thingies that always zoom straight for your forehead. But the cats generally take care of those.

Look on the bright side, at least slugs can't fly ...can you imagine them, flubbering round the lampshade at night and going fffssss on the bulb ...
