prob want 2 hides one for hot end one for cold end

some rubs come with clips that hold the lid down. regarding the holes i would have thought it would be a case of trial so that you get the correct temps and no condensation on the sides of the rub

Also something for them to shed against, driftwood or decorative stone. And definitely 2 hides. I have 3 and he alternates between them.

you would need to set the rub up a week or so b4 u pick up the snake so the temps can settle. start off drilling a few air holes at hot and cold ends. high up hot end low down on cold end. u could end up with condensation forming in the rub if u have to few holes so if you do get condensation you add more holes to solve the problem

I have holes all around the top of the rub, then holes in the lid (extra in the cold side) and a few lower down on the cold side.

as for securing the lid, i personally use(d) a 5kg weight which has worked fine with no escapees but guess it all depends on the size of the snake.

you can get a thermometer on surrey pet supplies that has 2 probes and its cheap (battery powered) infact everything you require is the cheapest on surrey pet supplies.

you will need bedding, either orchid bark, aspen or newspaper/kitchen roll

i got my rub and equipment the day i bought my snake so im not convinced that setting it up a week before is important, but thats just my opinion, and my little guy was happy as larry

The gradual drilling of holes is best to avoid having a sieve rather than a RUB (its a brand of plastic boxes all RUBs have clip handles that lock the lid, other plastic boxes are available but RUBs are ideal). It's always a good idea to run a setup before putting a snake in it, its guaranteed to need a tweek here and there as everything settles down. Holes in the lid will reduce heat retention too far in ky opinion, heat just goes up and out.
