Hi Guys Hope you all had a great christmas. I posted last week that Oscar had refused his last feed and I was worried that it was the start of a fast, but I've just read that once snakes are over 1200g, they should only be fed once every 14 days. I've continued to feed Oscar every 7 days and he is now 1315g. Is this correct, could this be why he refused and should I start offering once a fortnight instead? |

at that weight once every 14 days is fine, feed 10-15% of the snakes weight |

Yes, as Blackskull says, and no need to be worried about the start of a fast; it's entirely normal for royals at this time of year; their minds are on mating and not food; I have a couple at 1200-1500g who haven't eaten for a while and a smaller female who's eaten three times in over 2 months; though one stalwart male is still taking down his rats, I reckon he'll start the fast soon. |
