Depends where it works best for you - midway up back wall is where I've put my heat probe for a new ceramic fitting, but this is just because there was a handy hole in the viv lol. (amendment - I mean the probe is in the middle of the back wall, halfway up the wall, if you see what I mean.) I find that to put a probe midway along a viv means I've got more scope with heat adjustment - say for instance you need a temp 28 midway. The dial on the stat goes up to 34 so you're covered. But stat dials aren't that accurate. If the probe's under the bulb and you can't get the temps up, you've no leeway to adjust.

And I like the stat probe up off the floor out of the way of the snake - until some big bruiser comes along and still manages to squash it lol.

I'm not an expert on this by the way as this is my first ceramic - I've had IR and mats previously - just about to go and fetch temp gun to see how new fitting's doing.

Good luck with your new setup.

the dial on the stat is not accurate. my stat probs are on the floor about a third down the viv from the hot end. i measure the temp with a digi thermometer. these are fixed to the outside of the viv with a hole drilled behind the thermometer for the sensor to go through and the sensor is placed directly under the bulb

Lol you'll know more than I do Blackskull - this is my first ceramic, only got it because the stat that came with this viv is a pulse.
