i bought a viv for my royal today but am unsure how to go about setting it up. the woman in the shop said i should put the heat matt inside the viv but i dont really want to do that. if i put the matt under the viv will it get warm enough?
i have my royal in a rub at the moment with just under half of it on a heat matt, i know i need more stuff but i am unsure of what else i need. could someone give me a list of other stuff i need to get everything set up? thanks |

you can put the heat mat inside the viv, its fine as long as its statted an the snake is not to big to cover the whole mat. with a viv you are better off fitting a ceramic or IR bulb and guard with dimmer or pulse proportional stat. does mean spending a bit if you dont have the equipment but these will give an ambient air temp rather than just belly heat |

If you read the above, it goes into the pros and cons of everything - yes, I'm with Chris, infra red or ceramic, although pricey to begin with are better for royals.
If you put your heat mat under a viv there is a danger of thermal blocking/overheating/fire, even if the mat is statted. A rub has a rim around the bottom which allows for an air gap; a viv hasn't.
For equipment try ebay or this one that many of us use -

They are usually the cheapest online shop and delivery's very reasonable. Good luck with your setup. |
