hi guys just wanting some more info about fasting royals, my lil guy has only missed 1 feed which is great but it got me thinking:
Is it just males, or do females fast too?
do they only fast once they have reached sexual maturity?
if so, when is that?
and any other info is always appreciated, thanks |

my male never really fasts as such, a couple of times a year he wont eat for a few weeks
my pastel female is 17 months old, this is my first winter with her. she has just gone through a fast of 16wks. she ate last week and in shed at the mo so refused the other day |
1.1 normal royal, sully, silver
0.1 pinstripe royal, penny
1.1 pastel royal, lars, clover
0.1 lesser royal, serenity
0.1 black pastel royal, betty
0.1 mojave royal, mavis

My male cf10 Shahi (born Apr/May 2010) started refusing meals in Nov 10 and then did a big fast from new year 2011 till spring.
My female cf09 Saada arrived in Nov 10 and fed well until new year 11, resumed eating spring.
My female cb06 Surahi arrived in Nov 10 and wasn't a great eater; again, the fast new year 11 till spring.
Throughout summer and autumn these three have eaten lke wolves but since Nov have been fasting, although Saada has snacked a couple of times.
My male cb09 Shiva arrived in Nov 11 ...and has been a tiger for his grub ever since. Never has that guy missed a meal. I suppose he will start fasting, sooner or later ... |

My females fast the female pastel went 2 months without
They fast over winter
Or refuses when setups not right ;) |

| Thats why he eats, he's a baby still, they hit sexual maturity at about a year for males then their mind turns to nookie and food goes off the menu over the winter. |

| Shahi was born in apr/may 2010 and fasted in his first winter - conditions in his viv and setup and surroundings unchanged. Only thing that may have sparked off the fast was the arrival of 2 adult females, one of whom was in the same room with him, but, whatever, he fasted. |

my little male frank who i think is cb11 and 10 months at a guess has been fasting since the 29/11/11 but took a feed today, might just be a snack but will wait an see
the big male whos about 4 1/2 yrs old has been wolfing down rats but was in a bad setup with the wrong diet with the idiot previous owner |

Mine hasn't eaten since october, but seems fine! going to try him on a rat doday, but I doubt he'll take it....I was told they fast during breeding season, but if they mate, will they still do it?
I'm worried he might be underweight, weighing him today...
He's 3 and 6 months now. |

It's amazing how they don't seem to lose much weight during the fast - looking back in my records I see Shahi didn't lose any weight at all, Surahi, the biggest and heaviest (1300g+) when she arrived, lost 50g and Saada, the smallest though not the youngest, lost less than 10% of her bodyweight. All these three piled it on in the summer/autumn of this year.
So hope your boy won't have lost much weight, if any. |

| Cerberus is a 2010 male and hasn't eaten since the 16/10/11 the conditions in his viv hadn't changed so I thought it might've been the size of his rats, so reduced them but still nothing lol, so not tried since 24/12/11 cause I'm guessing he's fasting got him out the other day and he seems fine so not too worried yet lol... |
