also, the type of tarantula you want, and where you are going to get it from to get depends on a number of factors. do u want to handle it? how much money are you willing to spend? (no, im not trying to sell you mine, i want to keep mine now lol, but there are many different prices/sizes/types/housing etc with different prices and you dont alwways necceserilly need the most expensive) |

They can be, but generally are the most docile, there are exceptions to the rule though, i've so far over the last 10 years had 4 chile roses 1 i got as a sub adult from watermarque in yeovil, it died a week later, i also had an adult from there who they swore blind was captive bred, however i dont believe them, she was more highly strung than the colbalt blue i had! (which, by the way isnt one i'd recomend for a first T lol) the other two were very handleable never bit or flicked hairs. as a very general rule most of the "new country" t's (from the americas) tend to be more docile than ones from the "old country". red knees are also pretty good as a first one. if you are looking to handle it i would either buy a sub adult though it will take a couple of years to reach its full glory, or buy an adult from a private seller and when you pick it up make sure the seller holds it before you buy it (unless they have already stated it's not hand tame.) best place i have found for sub adults is thespidershop.com, i love them :D a good book to read is the tarantula keepers guide http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/The-Tarantula-Keepers-Guide-Spider-Reference-Books_W0QQitemZ310125263512QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Pet_Supplies_Reptiles_Spiders_Insects?hash=item310125263512&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1683%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318 it's my tarantula bible lol not all tarantulas are handleable, none of my current ones are :( though an awful lot are, they have a lot more personality than people realise, though they do not suffer in anyway through not being handled at all, in fact some people argue that they are happier to just be left alone. in my opinion tarantulas are the easiest pet to own. ever. |

oh and seriously, dont even think of bothering with spiderlings. yea they are cheap. but the chances of survival for a beginner are slim, i still haven't got the hang of it, it's easier if you have LOADS like if you breed them, but to just buy a couple, nightmare. |

well i have no problems at all owning a spider for the enjoyment of it and not handleing them. i dont mind not holding it. so i guess the chille rose you first reccomened would be a good choice. though if there is some easy methods of hand "taming" a spider i would try. like wearing gloves ^^ |

yea that is one way :D ive never had to hand tame one myself, they've either already been tame, or not at all so i've just left them to their own devices, the book i recomended has a bit about handling though, i really recomend u get a hold of a copy before you get your tarantula :D |
