Hi, I've seen a lot of pictures of people taking their reptiles outside and letting them go on the grass and just generally go around the floor, just wondering where some of you stand on this...?

As long as the environment is snake-friendly ie no nooks or crannies for the snake to escape into; no dangerous chemicals; other animals such as cats at a safe distance and the temps safe for the snake, yes, I'm all for it.

When the weather's been warm enough have fond memories of Saffy stretched along 4 watering cans and drinking from the fifth, Buffy twining in and out of pots of plants and making a disgusting mess in one of them - trust her! And Shahi turning unexpectedly into the loch Ness monster!

My dream house would incorporate a safe snake garden ...I wish!

If cats or dogs go in the garden could it be a problem, like where they'd been toliet (number 1) cause you cant pick it up... By the way that's an awesome pic

Thanks, Richard and Austin, yes, it was totally unexpected but think he enjoyed himself lol -

I have a tiny Coronation Street type backyard, which is wired in to prevent my cats roaming; they have trays and generally don't use the yard (unless Finn, who's elderly, forgets himself.) But yes, if you have a larger garden and other animals can get in, there could be problems with mess. And if you use stuff like weedkiller or slug pellets, of course the snake must never be allowed in that area. But, when it's safe, snakes do like an outing.

Aye I let my snakes out in the sun when it's nice and hot. We don't have any other animals and I'm always close by :)

VERY CLOSE BY

I do take mine outside but very rarely as its rarely warm enough only for short periods of time and I dont let them down out of my hands. They seem to enjoy (or tolerate calmly) laying on my belly basking in late afternoon sun in the summer. In winter its just too cold the wind robs them of their body heat very quickly.

I live in a first floor flat so no opportunity to take mine outside. I did take my Chameleon out on to the green area out the front last summer while the kids were playing. The local kids loved him, but their parents were horrified, goodness knows what they'd be like with a snake! haha!
