...for how much royals pee! Twice in the first week and half I've had to empty his RUB and give it a good clean. Its totally shocked me....God only knows what they are like as adults if they do this much as tiddlers! I thouroughly cleaned it out a few days ago due to a big wee and then last night while upgrading a couple of my other snakes to larger enclosures I looked over and there was loads of condensation in Wilburs tub. Took a look and he'd done a little poo and the kitchen towel was soaked again! So much for not handling him till he's had 3 feeds down his neck lol.

Omg same here - I'm ashamed to think of how I used to think 'cleaning' the first couple of times was a matter of taking out the solids and a scoopful of substrate. Shahi was only a baby but if he'd been in the night and I didn't discover it until his heat source had dried the wee, it was very hard to establish flood level. Royals don't just spend a penny - it's more like a tenner's worth.
Nowadays I take out a huge area of substrate round the royal effort, just to be on the safe side. |

Oh you're just unlucky they don't always flood the area, you tend to get a (excuse the pun) run of a few then a break where they do nothing for ages. But yeah when they do go they really go, I'm surprised I haven't seen Duke treading water before now lol. If you think Royals wee is bad never get a Boa, I cant believe how much wee even little Sanke does, she flooded a 18 litre rub not one patch of substrate was spared. |

I was stunned when I first got Hector, Royals are certainly 'wet' snakes! hahaha! Our new addition, Alice, has had to be cleaned out thoroughly twice in the 3 days we've had her. I keep mine on kitchen roll at the mo and she'd thoroughly soaked it both times (plenty of solid urate too) ewww! |

Lol,well its certainly been an eye opener for me, Thought he'd somehow knocked his water bowl overthe first time. Proper piddle pots aren't they! On the plus side though despite me having to do 2 total cleans while he's still settling in,he took his second feed for me yesterday afternoon Bearing in mind I was a muppet and got my days wrong so he only had 4 days between feeds I'm well impressed. Will just give him an extra day between this and the next.....Doh!
Glad I went for a royal instead of a boa then Lota! |
