One of my royals retained both eye caps last shed and I have tried everything to remove them since and nothing has come close to removing them.
I have tried adding moss hides and raising humidity to loosen them, doesn't work.
i've tried the viscotears gel technique about 8 times over and it hasn't shifted them.
i've tried a gently brush from a cotton wool bud dipped in water.

any suggestions what else I can try?

Is it just the cap retained or is there retained shed around it holding it on?

Yes - I had a case where the skin on Shahi's muzzle was glued fast by the skin plugs in his nostrils and heat pits - and of course you can't encourage the shed to peel the wrong way ... I bathed and bathed the poor guy's head and luckily, eventually, the shed yielded to gentle encouragement and the eyecaps came off easily with it. The plugs from nostrils and pits were huge!

Luckily this hasn't happened again, though I have some shed-ease on hand, just in case. Can't say how good this is as I haven't had to use it yet, touch wood.

Hope the eyecaps come off soon, you could always try the old pillowcase bath, best of luck.

It's literally just the eyecaps themselves you'd barely notice if you weren't looking for the dents and creases etc.
i've tried pillowcase it did nothing. I've resigned to waiting for the next shed and hoping they come off together if not i'll have to seek more professional help.
