Hi guys my gf found a huge log today but the only problem is it doesn't (to the untrained eye) have any identifying features like say leaves so I took a couple of pics of the bark and I'm hoping that one of you guys could help me identify it or at least tell me if it looks like pine or cedar or any other no no tree, thanks

Well, it's not oak, it's not beech or sycamore but I really can't tell what it is exactly although I fear from those tiny scars that it might be cupressus.

Have you got a pic of the whole log? Sometimes easier to tell from shape, twigs etc. And where did you find it - what sort of trees were nearby?

It looks like pine but need more info:

Where did you find it?
Was there any fir type trees close?
Was there pine needles beside the trunk?

Here's a photo of logged pine trees
