Well, she's been for a checkup today and as it turned out she had an obstruction. The vet could feel a lump just before her bum, so she took her out the back and flushed her out. The end result was a load of snake poo, two urates balls about the size of my thumbnail and a couple of stones! God knows where the stones came from, we've only had her on beech chips, but they're out now.

Other than that she's been given a clean bill of health and the vet seemed happy with how we were keeping her. The vet listened to her breathing and checked her mouth and everything seemed fine, so she thinks that the noise might well have been caused by Princess being in discomfort because she couldn't poo, or simply hissing a bit. The vet said that she'd probably poo again in the next few days, so we've got that to look forward to.

It's good to know that she's healthy though, I'm glad we took her to get checked over and will be doing regularly in future.

Glad she is ok, good job you had her then, goodness knows how she got those stones in her, but that could have lead to serious problems..

Bet she will feel loads better now they are gone..

I'm very happy that she's been fixed, the guy in the shop didn't seem to know when she'd last had a poo so I was starting to get a bit worried. Since she's been home she's refused to come out of her log, I think she's worried that we'll steal it again!

I'd be interested to know where the stones came from and how long they'd been in there, she was on newspaper in the shop, but at least she's shot of them now.

It's such a relief that we took her to the vet, I had no idea that she had an obstruction!

I doubt she was bred at the shop as she was the only royal there. From speaking to the vet they don't have the best reputation, and having been sold a heatmat with no stat and a bulb with no guard she's probably right. Does anyone know of a reputable shop in North Cumbria?

I know of a private breeder in Cumbria, but not sure if north or south.

Do you happen to know their nearest town? Not that I'm looking for another snake ATM, but I would be interested to know for future reference.

Appleby near Penrith, does that mean anything to you?

I don't know Appleby, but Penrith's only about 30 miles from me so if it's near there it'd certainly be close enough to have a trip to! Thanks.

<edit> Woohoo, I am no longer a snake mite!

If you mean p.p. from the dark side, I haven't bought from her but I do believe that she has a good reputation.

Whereabouts in cumbria you from chris, there are 3 shops in carlisle, 1 a defo no-go, one ok and one a good specialized rep shop. If you know carlisle then go see adam at The Ark. Don't worry about his appearance, he knows a fair bit and carry's a fair amount of live stock, ( not all rep's, but all exotic's ). Hope this helps, scott

Hi Scott, Carlisle is my nearest large town! Please could you let me know which is the good specialised shop, and which is the OK one? I won't ask about the no-go, a lot of forums don't seem to like you posting negative reviews.

The Ark on wigton road is by far the best in carlisle for livestock, although I have found his prices for equipment to be a bit on the steep side, for equipment I choose to go to Nu Pets on lowther street in the city centre. This is just my opinion, but both shops are very good and have a fair knowledge with royal's and other rep's.
Hope this helps chris,
Scott.

Yes I meant PP (Annabel), she's even thinking about opening her own reptile shop in the future.
