Hi and welcome, both to this forum and to the world of the Royal :)

I can only advise as to what I did before that leap of faith..I googled Royal Python and read almost every site I found lol. The Care sheet here is full of advice, mainly ask loads of questions and have a good nose around the forum.
Above all, have fun :) I can assure you, you'll never regret it.

Welcome and goof luck finding your first royal

This forum has to be the most laid back and knowledgeable forum I've been to. There really is no such thing as a dumb question here. No fear of getting flamed like other sites, or the "use the search function" responses either

Hello and thanks everyone, iam sooo excited it is unbelievable!!ive waited nearly 20 years for my own snake

Thank you Burnedatthestake i did read through that post but i can only read so much then i stop taking things in and i must say iam very confused now and wondering if i could manage to keep the temperature right, i have 2 bearded dragons, yes i know they are different but is a python really that much harder??...i use dimming habistats with them and just assumed it would be the same for a snake but seems iam wrong :S...also whats a Hygrometer and those IR lights??

Hi - I - waited 50 years lol! Seems daft that I did - but making up for lost time now.

Ah, if you're already using dimmer stats and maintaining temps, royals are honestly no different except for setup, but know how you feel - I'd feel nervous setting up for a beardie even though I've got 14 snakes.

The infra red bulb is one way of heating the royal's viv (with a guard of course but you'll know about that.) And there are also ceramics bulbs. Dimmer stats are good as they can be used with anything - mats, IR and ceramic.

Hygrometers measure the humidity. I've heard good and bad reports of them, but personally I've never used them. I do leave the royal's water dish in the warm end permanently, and, apart from during a freak heatwave, have never had problems with the snakes shedding. Royals don't need high humidity - as a rule normal room humidity is fine, but they can use a little extra when in shed - some people like to put a damp hide in for the snake to use, or a damp flannel or moss in a hide.

It's all new at first, but you'll get there.

Hydrometer is for checking the humidity in the viv, you need somewhere between 50-60%. It's easy to achieve by spraying once a day

IR Bulbs emit heat in the form of infrared radiation. IMHO the best way to heat a viv for a nocturnal animal. Temps need to be around 90c at the warm end then in the 80's at the cool end

Not too dissimilar to beardies, 10c less at the warm end and raise humidity. Job done

BATS beat me to it

Ah we overlapped Fezza

Oh, forgot to say - snakes can't 'see' IR light, so bulbs can safely be left on 24/7 without bothering the snake.
