Ideally 26c and the warm end 32c, but I reckon as long as the warm end is the right temp you needn't worry if the cool end is a bit below 26c, say on a cold winter's night when the ambient temps in room and viv will be down. The snake knows perfectly well how to thermoregulate lol.

are you using the mat in a viv? if so you might struggle to get the cold end to temp as heat mats are contact heaters and wont heat the air to get ambient temps

if you are using it under a RUB you still might struggle unless you raise the temp of the room it is kept in

Ah, with a mat you don't get an ambient temp as you would with a heat bulb (statted and guarded of course) but although mats aren't good for adult royals in vivs, they're ok for babies - got my little guy Sharif on one atm in his 2' viv and I make sure it's 32c on the mat but he moves about quite a lot, waits in his cold end on feeding day and moves back on to his mat to digest afterwards.

ps if you're using a mat under a rub, you do need a good ambient temp in the room as rubs don't retain heat as well as vivs. But at this time of the year that shouldn't be too much of a problem.

With a mat, the cool side is only ambient temperature, so it'll be room temp.

Out of interest I've just checked Sharif's cool end and it's 23c - this is in a south facing room with the transom window open a bit. In sunny (not!) Wakefield lol.

Personally I'm satisfied with that at this time of year, in a viv, as he's got his heat mat and plenty of hides and he can select a spot that's right for him. (He's in his warm end, needless to say.)

Come winter he'll be in his adult viv with a heat bulb and the room ambient won't be such an influence.

Sorry Blackskull - we overlapped earlier and I've only just realised. Yeah, Lewis, 26c is ideal, it's what I like to see in my vivs with heat bulbs.

with it being in a rub the air temp in the room will be affecting your cold end temps, a heat mat wont heat the air as it only a contact heater
