Hiya, I am Dilsh's mum. He is 10yrs old and has wanted a snake since the age of 7. I promised he could have one when he was 10 hoping that he would forget. He didnt!!!! He has just bought Monty, a Ball python (het albino) and I must say, he's very sweet. (have even held him!) He is about 18" and is housed in a really useful box (18ltr). We have a prorep 150mm x 280mm heat mat under one end with a cave above it. A habistat thermostat set to 88 degrees. A water bowl and a cave at the other side of the box with reptibark covering the bottom. We did have him in a 9ltr box with airholes but this became covered in condensation so with advice, we have put him in the bigger box, no airholes this time as the really useful boxes I am told dont need airholes. Still getting condensation and am hoping for any tips, advice and general guidance with this new addition to our family. Thanks, Dilsh's Mum

Hi and welcome

This is just how I do it

I put 3 rows of 4 holes (I use a soldering iron)
Each side of the rub
Hot side at the bottom
And cool side at the top

More people use rubs with holes in

And sounds like you have a great setup in place
Maybe raise the temp to 90f
But if 88f is working for your royal ignore that bit ;)

Thanks your advice, being a newbie, is very welcome. Having read how robust the breed is we would obviously like to ensure that the snake remains as healthy as possible and that in turn gives our son plenty of enjoyment.

Thanks again.
