I love animals, always have, ever since I was a kid i dreamt of owning snakes.

Over the years I've had allsorts, spent years breeding dwarf cuttlefish (sepia bandensis).

My Mrs has always...."tolerated" my obsession with the natural world, until I got a Royal last week.

Now I've been working on her for coming up to a year - after educating her and LOTS of pleading she gave in.

Something strange has happened to her since I got him..I caught her browsing youtube coveting over piebalds and other morphs, now she's obsessed! She even called me at work today to ask my opinion on converting our downstairs bathrooom into a snake room!

And I feel her addiction too, like I say i've had all sorts of creatures over the years but I've never felt this strongly before about any one species.

I laughed when people on here would go on about it becoming addictive but is thie the python effect?

Yep :D

I started with a normal male royal about 3 months ago and now I got 4 royals and 3 cornsnakes, and have 2 baby royals waiting to come home when they have had all their feeds. Only stopped now because we have run out of space for vivs!

Just need a bigger house so I can have a snake room :)

Yeah, Tig very quickly had me fall in love with Royals. Don't get me wrong, I loved Pandora, my Corn Snake, but there's just something about a Royal that makes you have to love them : )

Just me and my zoo.

I hear you. First Royal (normal) bought very much as an impulse buy in Jan this year. A Fire quickly followed in the March. I'm shortly going to be paying a deposit on another Fire - and I'm already hunting out a Cinnamon for my next purchase!!

Oh yeah, and my "man cave" (the little spare box room) is slowly getting turned into a snake pit / rep room.

7 months ago I'd never even held a snake.

Im the same my man cave which has my gym and pc in is now turning into a rep room/jungle gym lol i started with Marty my yellow belly in may then bought lumi my corn a month later and now planning on getting a pewter female and another male hopefully a lemon blast or maybe a super pastel to start my breeding project i was trying to work out how much i could afford and toying with the idea of getting a pewter blast female instead of the pewter it can turn out to be an expensive addiction

I think it's reptiles generally, since getting my first normal in 2011 I have got 2 more and 2 on the way plus a carpet python and a leopard gecko.

Not only that but since then, my nephew has got 3 and my gf has 2 and a hoggie

I think they have mind control powers and if your a good owner they brain wash you into getting more :-D

Yep its definitely an animal that wins our affection (I dont want to say addictive). I have always been fascinated by snakes but never thought I'd own one. I just took a notion one day to look up their care and that was it, I realised I could do it and went to speak to a reptile shop, I only ever expected to have one and brought home a hatchling corn snake. Then I really wanted a king snake so went to speak to the reptile shop and they had some royals in, I held one and bought it there and then, its little face and chunky body won me over. Not too long after that and I saw a lovely Hogg Island Boa with really reduced pattern and yep it came home with me. I Then got to work building a stack with 4 vivariums to limit my buying, so I had one spare vivarium and a million options but I really liked Albino house snakes so when one came up for sale I bought it and completed my snake collection.

Until I build the arboreal extension on my stack because I realised all my snakes are ground dwellers and thats just not right lol.

Never in a million years did I think I would ever have a snake. Now I have 2 (well, just looking after 1, at the moment mwahaha!) I cant go shopping without looking at shelving units and thinking how many can i get on there? Everytime I go to the reptile shop for rats I just have to look at the babies and want to buy them all. I think I may end up a Pythonaholic!

Royals - Sas, Boris & Ria
Boas - 1 called Titch until we can think of a name for her!
Cats - Felix, Becky, Max & Willow
