Tonight was a good night I would say. After having the snake for 6 days, moving it into the new aquarium, leaving the snake at my gf's house for couple days after being out of town for work and coming back and moving the aquarium to my house, holding the snake like a million times with in those days, even today, it was time to feed my snake. So tonight, she ate 3 pinkies within 10 minutes. I didn't even have time to get one warmed up and ready to feed her and she was already done eating a pinky. I fed her 3, and she looked like she could take another one, but I didn't know if I should give her one more, or if she can even handle that much. Is there such a thing as "over feeding" a snake? This was my first time feeding a snake, and I tell you what, what an experience! But, I am very happy she ate, from what I have read and people have told me, I didn't think she would have eaten already! Now, I just hope it all stays in there and she doesn't spit it back out. What you guys think about this situation? Should I be happy, or is she going to spit it back up? I also took some pics that I will post tomorrow of my aquarium and snake |

Yes there is such a thing as over-feeding, but Pinkies are quite a bit small for Royals, so that's probably why she wanted so many. Try a small Rat Pup or a Small Mouse maybe. |

As BE says...pinkys are very small for a royal...Most royals can take a rat pup or small mouse as soon as their hatched. As for the snake regurgitating the food, as long as you dont handle the snake for 24/48 hrs you should be fine.
You can overfeed snakes, its known as 'power feeding' and is highly unrecommended as can cause seriuos health problems due to the rapid growth. |

Power feeding is generally done by people to reach breeding weight quicker...I think they feed a large meal every few days to help them pile the pounds on...
Dont worry cat if your feeding every 5-7 days you will be fine... |

I met a breeder at the Norwich show last year and asked how old his large Royals were, was very surprised that they were '08s until he told me they were feeding 3 times a week, needless to say, but I didn't buy from him! |

with power-feeding it's not only the frequency of feeding that's an issue, also the way another prey item follows the first one into the snake's mouth so it doesn't actually realise it's finished one item and is onto the next. |

Do you think I was feeding her to fast then? She had already swallowed the pinky fully and was starting to escape the box before I fed her another one. thanks for the replies guys! |
