Hey hey

I'm just moving my royal over from a RUB to viv with infrared heat bulb.

I'm guessing that you want a temp of 32c within the hot hide as opposed to floor temp?? Due to the hide acting as a partial heat barier this will mean the temp on top of the hide is about 34c..... or will the hide eventually "soak" the heat up rather than refect it?

Thanks!

hiya, welcome to the forum

i have my probe and digital thermometer directly under my heat source.
But that is just my preference

I also have my probes on top of the hide, directly beneath the heat source.
The reason i do this, is that when i used to put the probes inside the hide, the temperature on top of the hide used to reach between 35 and 38 degrees.

for mats I always say in the hide, for bulbs/ceramics I always put the probe OUTside the hides. If nothing else this sometimes means you actually see your snake more, as it doesn't have to go to its hide to get warm ;)

I also have mine on the out side of the hide. I set mine to about 33*C on the roof of the hide.

When heating the viv this way its more about the ambient temp rather than a hot hide from my understanding.

ha ha. Just looked in my royal's viv. The thermometer probe is inside and the stat probe is outside at an inch above ground level. I forgot that I'd changed it around .

All these exams and stuff at uni are frying my brain
