I picked up four multis today, they are all just weaned...
and they are so gorgeous.
this is one of them
i cant take there lives..i cried all the way home ...and it was a 40 mile journey to go get them, i looked at them fed and watered them, then looked at the tiny one that is for Kaz, and i cant do it...i cant end her life..
and i killed a pheasant cos is sat in the middle of the road and i did not slow down quickly enough, i thought it would get out of the way.

Aww bless you, this is not good. I cant offer any advise, i know i couldnt do it either.
Dont worry about the pheasent, stupid bloody birds, if you had slowed down in time it probably would have thrown itself under the wheel anyway, lol
So three new pets wolfspirit? |

That is exactly why I hope I never have to live feed. I would do it ahead of force feeding if needs be, but I'd hate it.
Ant's right, pheasants are stupid. I've nearly had a couple of them because they insist on wandering into the road and standing in front of cars. BTW, I hope you didn't take the pheasant home for tea, you could get done for poaching! |

I have some bad news for you,
I did it...
I gave Kazz the smallest one that was meant for her,
I had to she has not fed since 20th May and whilst that is not a long time it is a long time for an underweight royal...
It was over very quickly, i would say forty seconds from strike to starting to eat it, so death must have been quick..thank fully..and the multi did not suffer, and i had to watch as this thing had teeth.
i still feel bad, but also relieved that Kazz has eaten...
so mixed emotions right now...

You did the right thing, Kaz needed food. I know it must be unpleasant and I wouldn't like do it myself, but it's nature. |

it was really hard, but i felt great that Kazz had a meal..that she badly needed..
Maybe in time she will go to defrost, but if she does not i have to live with it...
i suppose it will be easier in time.. |

Someone with more experience would have a better idea, but I'd have thought that if you get a couple of live feeds down her it would give you more opportunity to persist with defrost without worrying about her starving.
Try to take comfort from the fact that you did something you found difficult because it was in Kazz's best interests, rather than abdicate responsibility because you found it distasteful. It shows strength of character that you did what was right for Kazz. |

Thats the trouble i cant get a supply of what i need to try and get her converted..hence me buying the ones i did for breeding, but this will take around another 8 weeks and they are slow growers, but prolific breeders.
So in between i am going to have to trek to and from Royston every week, but....there is the B.R.A.S show in Brentwood beginning of June...
i am hoping to get another breeding trio then.. |

Oh Anne! I think I can actually say I know exactly what you feel right now! Chris said it PERFECTLY. It shows a strength of character to do something distasteful but necessary.
I hate to be such a drab, but in my experience, it doesn't really get easier in time. You still feel the gut-wrenching every single week. You just tend to come to grips with it in your head faster.
GOOD JOB! I'm sure Kaz' life is much better now.

even though i am relieved she fed,
I still feel really crap ..she was so tiny...
maybe i should teach Casey to do it, as he does not like snakes or mice that much so he would not have any emotional attachment, but if there was trouble he would not stop it...
and thanks;-) |

But i took a life..
that is what is so hard, she did not die of ill health or a snake in the wild, it was me who took her life..
I dont expect you to understand...its part of who i am is all.. |

If u didn't feel remorse you wouldn't be an animal lover. Me, I just rationalize things to make me feel better. |

Dont worry about it too much Anne... At least it wasnt killed for fun or some useless reason. its death served a pupose...
As for converting it to defrost, I would do a couple of live feeds, then try a fresh killed feed, hopefully she will take it. Then once she takes a few of them i would then try some you have frozen... |

Well Done Anne, it needed doing. I agree with Daz in that it was killed for a purpose and not for sport. |
