Im in two minds. I think the ceramic would be best as its gives off no visual light. Im not sure really. Ive seen different case studys saying that snakes CAN see the red light the infra red bulbs give off....
Not got any experience with infa-red. Although we have a ceramic on a pulse stat for our royal and the temps are always perfect with no light stress whatsoever. I would recommend a ceramic.
I'm using infra-red. The temps are spot on, and the light's quite dim at night when I drop the temp a few degrees. I'm convinced that snakes can see red light, but I've heard that when using an infra-red bulb it's like dusk to them.
Can ceramics be used with ON/OFF stats? And is 250 watt ceramic REALLY neccessary, ive seen people have beardie viv setups with 100W in a 4ft viv! No way your using all 250 watts
Ceramics cam be used with on/off stats but is not recommended...IMO it would shorten the life span alot cos of the consstant on/off(heating/cooling) a pulse or dimmer is wot is recommendend...
As with the size, it is personal preference really if it is on a stat. if you put a 100w in it will work alot harder than a 150w/250w therefore it will probably shorten the life of the ceramic. 150w and 250w are the same price, and if it run of a stat the wattage is not really important as it will only run at full power to achieve the intial temp.
