I just wondered if anyone else's Royal was worryingly shy?
T'old Evra is so nervous that I'm sure just being disturbed for a water change on feeding day puts her off her dinner. When you get her out she stays in a ball for at least 10 minutes. So nervous she won't come out of her hides until well after our bed times.
So, I've got a bit of a dilemma- Do I try to bring her out of herself by more frequent handling, or leave her settled so that she continues to eat?
What's everyone else think? |

im no expert as ive only had mine a week but mine seem really curious and even when they are in their hides the have their heads poking out so they can nosey. When i hold them they only stayed curled up for less than a min and they seem to get comfortable.
Personally i think holding her more might be a good idea coz the longer you leave her the harder it might become to bring her out of herself but then chancing her not eating is difficult.
Sorry i really havent been any help at all lol |

No, that helped.
We've only got Evra you see, so don't know if her shyness is typical for a Royal or not.
She doesn't nosey at us at all- in fact she even poos and sheds within her hides! This is a problem too, because generally for the other snakes we don't disturb them in their hides unless we really have to. I think it's important for them to know it's a safe place to be, but with Evra you've got to lift her hide up regulary just to make sure she's ok and check for poo/shed.

Im no expert either but if it was me i would wait until shes had a good meal and try a week for so after that. Take her out and if it puts her off her dinner at least you know she has eaten recently. |

it depends on the snake, one of mine can be very shy, but my other two are far from being shy |

Queenie's really shy out of the RUB but spends a lot of time exploring it when it gets dark, I often catch him mooching round the decorative rock he has when I switch the room light on. |

Monty is very weird, he is mainly exploring his viv, climbing the branch, crawling up the wall or even hanging of the lock on his viv door. When he is in the hide his head is by the entrance and looking out and he seems to enjoy being handled, but he only eats if assisted but takes it straight away, its almost like he doesnt realise that he can open his own mouth. |

She did "the ball" for the first time for me today. It was really cute and she came out after about a minuite. I will get a pic if she does it again. |

The ball, for the first time!!!!!
Chuff me! I only ever see Evra as a ball- seeing her stretched out is a rarity for us.
I think you've got a god snake there Matty. |

I'd recommend taking her out when its not too bright and make sure you have no tv/radio etc in the room, also if you open her tu and sit over it so she's aware you're there |
