Any advice regarding the defrosting of food and re freezing if not eaten also how long would you keep a frozen mouse/rat. I know this is a bit precarious until my little one starts feeding on a regular basis. It is just If I thaw then throw away iif not eaten I will waste a few at the beginning she has refused food once. I am unclear also I am warming them up with water and going to buy a hair dryer I am bald / shaven so don't use one myself. Other people have said feed cold wet warm wet so your thought please folks. |

i dont refreeze thawed food cos if they dont take it by striking, then i leave it in the viv over nite (for 24hrs really) then throw it away if its not been eaten. I have been told not to refreeze after 24hrs due to bacteria that grows inside/on the food.
I defrost mine by placing in a tub and leaving by/near/on a radiator for a few hours then have started to use a hair dryer just to warm them up, taking a little more time on the head. |

i defrost mine in a plastic tub either over a mug of hot water or on the radiator. immediately prior to feeding i extra-heat just the head by putting it head down in a plastic tub over a mug of boiled water.
i refreeze prey items with no problems if they've been out for 12 hours (ie. overnight) and frequently put mice in a plastic tub in the fridge to try feeding again 2 days later. |

yep, i do regularly, as long as it's not been out over 24 hours and it's not been too warm ie. not in the height of a hot summer, remember those? some people have found particular snakes actually show a preference for thawed, re-frozen, re-thawed prey items. |

it is good to know about refreezing, i have not needed to yet, but he is still young, so who knows what is around the corner, not trying to tempt anything here..lol.. |
