A Royal will never need a pinky, they can take fuzzies from birth and will quickly move onto Small Mice. However, at adult you may find that mice aren't big enough, so moving them onto Rats early on is a good idea in my opinion. |

BE is right, a royal will be too big for a pinky from birth. The sooner the snake realises rats taste nice the better |

Rats have a higher nutritional value for royals that they need whereas mice can be too fatty for them which can cause poor muscle tone and further health problems in royals.
From a young baby (hatchling) your royal can take rat pups and will quickly move onto small mice then medium, then large, then onto a rat weaner.
I have posted a size chart thread in this section, take a look! |

Sherman was 1 year old when I got him and he's gone straight into a three foot viv. Loads of hiding places and he loves it. As long as you minimise the amount of open ground in a viv yours should be fine. |

Some people keep adults in 50L or 64L or 84L(same floor size but different heights), but I'd say they were a bit small for a larger Royal. |
