Hopefully this thread will help you decide whether or not a large reptile is for you. At monthly intervals I will post a pic of Godzilla the Bosc Monitor and a brief outline of what has happened, war wounds that he has given me, viv building and anything funny that happened. So here's the first pic:
So far I have discovered that although he is small and seriously cute he definately stands his ground and is not scared of the big shaven monkey. There was a lot of huffing and puffing when he came out of his viv yesterday but today it didn't go on as long. So far there hasn't been any biting or tail whipping but there's still time yet. He is VERY fast on his feet and can jump pretty well to.
Viv size at the moment is 36" x 18.5" x 20" but materials are being sourced to build a 6' x 3' x 3' over the next few months which should see him through to adulthood .
First pinky mouse today. He's still a little wary of the ape hand in his viv so wouldn't take it from the forceps. Put it down and 2 mins later it was gone.
2 Tubs of medium locusts 1 Tub of medium/large brown crix 20+ Hatchling GALS 1 Pinky mouse 1 Portion of blitzed heart/liver/steak
His crix are dusted with nutrabol twice a week and his water is changed at least twice a day because he thinks it is his toilet at the moment. He isn't showing any signs of agression (yet!) but is doing the "aaarrrgh run away" routine every time I go near the viv unless there is food involved. He's taking his pinky from forceps now and yesterday we indulged in a spot of tug of war with it.
Here's the monthly pic as promised. Apologies for the poor quality but I had to snap him before he legged it.
The rock that he is sat on is the same one as last month's pic.
The materials for his 6 foot viv are being sourced bit by bit and so far haven't cost me a penny because of some advice I have been given (thanks to Lotte, a.k.a Saedcantas, on the dark side).
Edit: Awwwwww. Just noticed on the pic that he's getting chubsy little legs. **clears throat and lowers pitch of voice** Sorry
