I am looking into the possibility of building a rack as my collection of royals is increasing and i will run out of space soon, so a rack seems to me to be the more practical way to go..
whats the best way to build one and what size rubs will i need for adults and also hatchlings, will it be best to have two stacks one for adults and one for youngsters?
also what is the best way to heat them all..?
thanks;-) |

I would build a frame out of conti boeard to fit 50l RUBs and 9l RUBS. how many is up to you...
To heat it i would use a heat mats. Heard the heat cable isnt as reliable and can break. Use 1 stat per horizontal level (cos heat rises) and the temp can increase as you go up the rack.

oooh i am with you now... i thought you meant everything in the stack... including the adults sorry lol.... so if i had a "stack" of vivs for the adult royals when they are bigger (including the corn and the boa in this stack) could i use ceramic... or would you still suggest heatmats? |

i have been on the look out for cupboards on freecycle..but even making it with contiboard would not be hard would it? I magine how many royals you could have...
how can you regulate the temps if your just using one stat?
would it be tricky to get the temps correct in each rub?

You can use ceramics in rubs but it is harder to do as you would need to make the rack deeper to fit the ceramic behind and position it right. 1 way is to have ducting running behind with a ceramic underneath and a fan inside the ducting to push the warm air through to all the levels.

I personally prefer heat cable ran on a pulse stat.I have had heat cables on constantly for over 3 years now with no problems. Heat mats are popular and are just as easy to get the temp right as in a viv, just put the probe directly on the mat.
