I have a 3ft viv for my 3ft plus royal
I ddn;t have a heater guard in till last night
I;ve put it in now and in effect have raised the distance my ceramic bulb is from the royals hideout

The bulb is about 8 inch from the substrate the thermometer and pulse stat probe is abot 6 - 7 inch from the bulb

although I haven;t altered the pulse stat settings the temperature is now showing 27.1 instead of 30 that it was doing wit the bulb being lower. The other end of viv is 25

is this ok or can you give me tipswhat to change

The heat guard will be absorbing some of the heat, turn yuur stat up a bit until the digital thermometer reads the right temp.

I'd put both probes on the substrate and adjust the stat until the warm end is 32.

heavier-gauge mesh effectively blocks some of the heat getting through, a finer type mesh guard might be needed if your stat can't get it up to temp

As you have raised the heat bulb you will have to turn the stat up to get the same heat setting on the substrate. As Chris said the warm end should be 32c. The probes should be on the substrate so i cant work out how the bulb is 8 inches from the substrate and only 6-7 from the probes!

perhaps as well the fact that i'm sure you had to turn it all off for a bit to move lamp and fix guard wil have played a part as the temps will need to establish again.
