Are you sure your thermometer is working correctly, are you cooling it down between measuring because that doesnt sound feasible, the end with the light has to be hotter. |

The positioning of the thermometers can have a big effect on the way you percieve the temperatures, as Hodgie says, the hot spot created by the light will always be the hottest point, you just need to have your hot end thermometer probe in the hot spot with direct line of sight to the bulb. I tuck my cold end thermometer probe just behind the cold end hide and in a shaded part. The cold end is really just the ambient temperature, if your hot end thermometer is not directly in the hot spot or shaded its just measuring the ambient again. There will be a slight difference in ambient between the ends so this may be whats happening. |

Great stuff. I will be setting up a tropical fish tank soon so I know who to ask now. I've set up 2 vivariums 1 success and 1 work in progress. Its all a little adjustment here, a tweek there. You'll soon be able to set up a viv without thinking and as snakeys are very addictive you'll soon have the opportunity to set another one up. |

HAHA, a 4 foot tank, thats impressive, I've just a small 2 foot vcold water tank full of danio.
I have to sing the praises for corn snakes, I love mine to bits, such a lovely little snake, so good natured, always active and exploring and a brilliant feeder. Put a corn snake on your wish list. Not really had any bonding time with the royal yet, been here 2 weeks and its done nothing, I tell a lie, last week it refused to feed, lol. I'm been a bit mean, he is so cute and he's just a bit scared and very jumpy, I've held him a few times for a few minutes and he is very jumpy. Though give it a month or two and I'm sure he'll keep me entertained as much as the corn snake does. |

I found a corn snake about 4 years ago it was about 8 inches long a freezing cold down an alleyway I thought it was dead but picked it up anyway, I took it in doors and after holding it for about 5 mins it started moving, a friend of mine keeps snakes so I took it to him. He still has it it's now nearly 5 foot I won't go anywhere near it especially if it's in it's viv cos it very viv aggressive. Put me off a bit, but the shop I'm getting my royal from has some really nice ones. Think if I did ever manage to talk my hubbie into another I would have a rainbow boa. |

Oh yeah a BRB is on my list, I would really love a Green Tree Python, they are beautiful beasts with a nasty reputation but thats only cos when one bites you, its a BIG deal. Corns are rarely aggresive, maybe that one has issues. |
