Hi, what is the ambient temperature of the room where you have the rub? In order to maintain the temperature inside the rub, the room itself needs to be kept at a consistently warm temperature, as far as I understand (correct me if I'm wrong, guys.)

A thermometer should do it.

Blimey your radiators must be humming. Its easier to maintain temperatures in the setup when the temperature outside it is steady. I run my heating 24/7 at 17 degrees, I couldn't deal with it been any hotter and it gives a steady base with which to build a nice temperature gradiant. I air out every Sunday morning, crack the windows open and its incredible the difference it makes in my vivs, usually the bulbs end up on full power and I lose a few degrees in ambient temp and the humidity changes too depending on the weather outside.

Nice warm room then. I'm not an expert on using rubs long-term, but one other thing I can think of is, don't rely on the temp shown by the stat. In my experience you have to keep tweaking stats until you see the right temp on the thermometer, regardless of what it says on the stat (grr!)

Hope this helps until an expert or two comes along ...

Absolutely correct.
The ambient in a viv is maintained by the bulb but a rub will only be a couple of degrees warmer than the temp of the room. I keep the room with my rubs between 76-80F then place a heat mat attached to a PP stat over 1/3 to 1/2 of the rub creating a hot spot of 90F

If your using a mat stat this is absolutely fine. They fluctuate about 3-5 degrees as they are simple on off design. Only a pulse or dimming stat will give you stable temps.

1.0 Enchi X Pastel
1.0 Fire het clown
1.0 Bumblebee
