Hello!

Diablo, as many of you know, has this habit of climbing up things, anything he can find, he climbs up his hides, up the light guard, up the walls, up the glass, climbs on the lock alot.

The only downside to this is he sucks at climbing, every 10 minutes you hear him fall off something and hear a BANG! where he's hit the deck again. He does this, I would guess well over 100 times a day. If I open the glass he'll immediately come rushing out and climb up my hand.

I'm worried he's going to start doing damage to himself falling off everything all the time, I know snakes are sturdy but christ he must fall over at least 500 times a week.

Also he has now started climbing up his lock and pushing his nose in the gap between the two pieces of glass, he can't fit inside it but I'm worried he'll hurt his nose if he keeps it up. I suspected it was him trying to get more ventilation as I'm sure some air gets in there but I tested the theory by leaving the glass open an inch or so to see if he'd move his nose rubbing to the gap but he kepts it up at the lock, all the while climbing and falling off at the same time.

Anything I can do to stop him doing this? Is he just trying to escape his viv or is he just a hyper snake?

Hi, yes, I'd be worried too. And judging by his charming habits where his other end's concerned, makes me wonder if his great grandaddy was a corn snake! (only kidding!)

My corns do this kind of thing when the fancy takes them but luckily they've never attacked the gap for long (and they're older, so coming out for armchair walkies for a bit usually satisfies them.)

You could try removing his viv lock and using one of those little rubber wedge thingies. They really do keep firm. Or there's Sandi's tip of using a wodge of blu-tac. Some people make a paper or cardboard wedge - I tried this first of all but found it wasn't stable, or at least my efforts weren't.

If his viv lock's not there for him to climb on, he might lose interest in the gap ...?

He just sounds like a very active young snake, grass is always greener as the saying goes ...

Good luck.

I hate having to use props to keep my vivs locked but I might consider locking it at the very top out of his reach! see if that works.

Another thing he does is climb on the very edge of the ridge where the glass sits, no idea how he manages it but he moves along the bottom of the glass on that ledge until his whole body is on it and then falls backwards rather comically xP I'll have to film his antics later

Ha, another corny trick! My corn snakes have been sliding along the window track since they were tiddlers lol. Makes it dead easy to judge their (approximate) length.

That's a good idea, to shift the lock to the top. All the best.

Amendment - Iknow you hate that flexible jungle vine stuff, but perhaps you could fix up a length just for him, round the back of his viv? Might distract him - was lying awake at 3 this am and watching Shahi disport himself on his - they do seem to like it.

Tried shifting the lock but some idiot designed it in a ... stupid moderators!! GRRR!

In a "stupidly stupid" way, so you need a tiny tiny screwdriver to tighten the screws from the inside of a viv, you need to be a bloody contortionist! I tried fixing it back on but it kept falling down so I ripped it off and threw it across the room, HA! Take that poorly made device, bloody idiots designing locks like that it's madness!

Hi Kelfezond, I was going to suggest you put the lock on the bottom of the door, that where i put mine but if its been launched then 2 late! Jungle vine might help or some extra wood branches perhaps?

I would probably do the same as Sandi mentioned. You've got piece of wood next to one of your hides. Just try to move it in the place where the snake falls all the time. Maybe it'll stop him.

He doesn't just fall off the lock, he falls off the wood, his hides, the light guard.

He's just stupid o.o

I might invest in some more climbing toys for him though maybe some vines or more wood.

So mich for royals being ground snakes that spend alot of time hiding away lol

Get some of that pipe lagging and make him a special helmet and pads and stop putting gin in his water bowl.

MY corn is always climbing on his viv lock even though its at the top, once they get up you cant open the door either. Duke like to climb (when he isn't hiding) but is far too fat for using the lock.

A handy little Diablo-sized TRAMPOLINE??

(What goes up must come down ... He'd probably, like any young male, enjoy the silly thrill lol.)
