Can anyone offer any advice? I'm having major fluctuations in temps in my 9l rub set-up..... to the point where I'm thinking I might have to get a viv set up hoping this will be easier to maintain.
My set-up is a 9l rub, with airholes in the lid around the groove.
The heatmat is 6x11 7w and positioned under 1/3 of the rub.
The heatmat is fixed to a microclimate mat thermostat which is set to around 31degrees.
The probes for both the thermostat and the digital thermometer and tucked slightly into the aspen substrate and are right next to each other.
Now, the digital thermometer reads anything from 29.0 to 33.5 degrees and is constantly travelling between the two temps. I'm getting mega stressed and checking on it every 2 minutes.
Am i doing something wrong here? Or is this fluctuation normal? Would a larger rub/viv be easier to maintain? I don't want to stress my new snake in a larger area, but I'm now so stressed I'm not sleeping!!!!
Hiya. Unlike pulse and dimming stats which keep the temp constant oct stats are on off so do fluctuate a few degrees. You don't really want the stat probe on the floor of the rub. I would tape the stat probe directly to the heat mat. either under the rub or to the side. This will give you more constant temps. Set your stat according to the reading on the thermometer. It just offer a little tweeking. Also once I have the right temp set at the hot end of rub I take the temp probe out and place it on the mat also. This way i'm still recording the temp of the mat and also avoiding false readings from snake covered probes, urine etc. Good luck.

Ah yes! Sorry.... meant to update and forgot! Taped the stat probe to the heat mat and it only fluctuated from 31.9 - 33.1 now so much happier!!! Thanks for the help!
