Not sure what stage your at in the shedding process but from start to finish it can take a few weeks. Don't worry about them missing a few feeds, these snakes are built for fasting (Duke's has only had three small meals since mid August) they are quite capable of going a year without food so a few weeks is not a problem at all. |

I once noticed Spider, one of my corns go blue, then she cleared ...THEN she shed ...2 months later!!
However, the two latest sheds, from Shiva and Shahi, who are 09 and 10 respectively, have happened so fast that they've gone from blue to clear and shed within a week.
I'd say, on average, a week; younger snakes may take less time and, as Bob says, delaying your little girl's feed won't be a problem; I usually delay feeds if I know they're in blue, although greedy colubrids may take regardless lol. |

Ok thanks for the great advice again, I will keep putting her in a pillow case just to help her along and then maybe feed her a day after she has completely shed. Thanks again |

A pillow case is only needed for troubled shed, if the shed is going normal as it should be you won't need to use a wet pillowcase at all she'll do it all herself. You'll just end up stressing her out if you expose her to a wet pillowcase without need. |

Yes, as Kelf has said, though the pillowcase can work wonders for a stuck shed, while you're waiting, all you need to do is keep up humidity - I keep water bowls permanently in warm end for royals now. Other people provide damp hides and place damp flannels on top of warm end hide.
All the best with her shed. |

where do you get the damp hide from? or can you make one? I took her out for a bit of a nose today just to check up on her, she looks a bit patchy where skin has come off in places but doesn't seem in any stress, she was also wandering around in her viv it looked like she was looking for food so just thought i'd try a feed just inside the viv(she has waited for 12days as was going into shed). the moment she smelt the mouse she became very alert and presenting it within 6 inches of her took it instantly, must of been hungry! she manovered it around took it head first and seemed very happy. Prior to the feed I did give her 10-15mins in a damp pillow case again to try ease her shed the skin still seems quite attached, where it has come off the skin looks in good condition being very bright and colourful. Is then anything else I can do to help?, I've already got an extra bowl under the lamp. |

Bless her, glad she ate for you.
If her eyecaps and tailtip are off, I wouldn't worry unduly; she'll look scruffy but it should come off with the next shed.
I leave a bowl of water permanently in the warm ends of my royals' vivs now; imo that does the trick, but for a damp hide, all you need is:-
a large plastic icecream carton or similar, with lid
and a damp flannel or kitchen paper. Sphagnum moss is often recommended but with me it went smelly. (Unless Shahi weed in it - he would!)
Cut a hole in the side of the carton big enough for the snake to enter, no jagged edges. Put damp stuff in box, replace lid, job done. Best to put it in the cool end as it will evaporate too fast in warm end. I'd personally put it in as soon as you notice an impending shed; to keep it in permanently could make it a bit too damp for the snake, especially if it gets attached to it.
Hope this helps and good luck with her shed. |
