Unfortunetley my royal recently suffered very minor scale burn due to thermal blocking via a heatmat which was my heat source. After a trip to the vets and a prescritption of iodine im pleased to say the skin seems to be healing. I have done a fair bit of research to try and educate myself and discovered the many topics on this forum and others about thermal blocking via heatmats so I have now changed to a 100w ceramic heater set up. Im very pleased for the most part with it because it seems to provide a much more even ambiant air temp rather than simply a 'hotspot'. However the problem (if it is one) is that Ive got the temp on the warm side of my tank at around 30.5C, but the 'cool' side of the tank temp is sitting at around 29C which I think may be too high. I have a 3ft wooden viv and wonder if there are any tips to keep the cool side cool so to speak.

Thanks

glad your royal is getting better

never had a prob with heating like that in a 3ft viv myself. you warm end needs to be a bit warmer 32c. how far down from the end of the viv is the bulb at the hot end? if that makes sense. i have my bulbs about 6 inches from the end of viv on hot end.

have you been running the ceramic long? it can sometimes take a while for the temps to settle, well it does in my house

i have a 3ftx1ft viv with a 100w ceramic an a hot spot of 31c ish.
i dont have a thermometer in the cold ends of the vivs but will go an check the temp in a minute.

just checked an the cool end is 27.5c, thats with the bulb and guard about 4 inch's from the wall like blackskull an the probes directly under the bulb/guard

Thanks for your replies

Well I have only had my new setup about four hours so perhap my concerns were premature but nevertheless. My ceramic bulb is about two inches from the edge of the wall of the viv on the hot end so the guard pretty much rests on the wall mabye about a few centimetres off. I have my digital therm on the side wall of my hot end beside my stat probe. My other therm is on the back wall of the viv mabye about a few inches in from the side wall of the cool end...hope this makes sense !

you want to place your hot end therm directly under the ceramic, you may find that if you move the therm there that its warmer than where it is
