well tried feeding marty again just now and the poor thing looked more scared of the rat than wanting to eat it he backed away from it and hid his head under himself, im not sure what to do next the bloke in petshop said he wasnt striking but just taking them from him and eating, not sure if the girl has gave me fuzzies and hes been on pinkie rats before i bought him and hes not used to the size or hes just still not settled yet. will have to pay another visit to the petshop and ask more info on who was feeding him and how and maybe get a pinkie to try. his last feed would have been 2 weeks ago today at petshop. have you guys any tips and advice on what i should do? just to add ive left the rat in his viv hoping he takes it through the night is this ok? thanks carl |

2 weeks is nothing to worry about think it was lotabob whos royal didnt eat for something like 7 weeks when he got him. i would brain the rat( stab a hole through the skull) then leave it in the cool end overnight as he may eat while your asleep my little one frank used to eat like that |

Well the braining didn't temp him :-( the rat was still inside his cool hide this morning so binned it (think I need to invest in another snake lol) will try again Friday maybe with a smaller rat if that's what petshop were giving him so will go tomorrow to find out. How long should I let him keep refusing before I need to worry and assist feed him? |

There's no hard and fast rule for this, and assisting is worst-case scenario stuff - after 2 years on this forum I can predict that in a while you'll be among the number of proud owners whose first royals have had a slow start, and who post - 'yay - he tooK!!!!'
Of course it can happen (in a very few cases) that the royal doesn't feed for some weeks in a new home, but there's no cause for worry unless there is weight loss - about 15% of the snake's weight.
He's new and just getting used to his new home but he looks a nice strapping lad and his setup's great. Keep offering him a rat every week (I'm assuming he's on weekly feeds?) and try not to worry (easier said than done I know - I'm the world's worst!)
Fingers crossed for his first feed with you very soon! |

I've just found out that he was fed mice in the petshop and was feeding well so it seems he's just being a fussy bugger lol so going to get a couple mice to try and gonna try defrosting a rat in the same bag as a mouse and try seeing if he will take the rat |
