And the best place to put it might be under my bed? This way, I can put black card all around; so it's completey dark in the evnings/night.. and take it out during the day, so light still gets in?
I'll get some mice pinkys either later today or tomorrow - But if I move him into this new home; should I be leaving him another week before feeding him? Or would it be ok just to try a little on wednesday? and if that fails, go get a 'pet mouse' the following week?
Thanks for all your help ^^
when did you last try him?
try him with rat pups...
when you say pet mouse, what are you thinking of giving him? |

I tried him last night, left it in overnight and it was still there in the morning. Won't rat pups be a bit too big? Bigger then a weaner mouse at least?
I mean that as in trying to live feed.. My local rep shop sell 'pet mice' to those who need them as selling live food is illegal? So it's just the loop hole for them I guess. |

i would not be feeding that royal a live mouse it is to big...
what size mouse are you talking about?
you will stress him out if you keep on trying to feed him as well..
only offer once a week...and yes try a rat pup first that is very warm, as per my second reply from my friend...and see if her suggestions work..
i would not try again for another seven days..leave the snake totally alone only changing water if it gets dirty
if you need help you need to let me know, i can get you help to get that snake feeding... |

Alright, I will get a rat pup and try again next week then. I'm only asking if it'd be alright to try again in a few days due to his age; if he had ever eaten before I wouldn't worry as much - But since he's only going on the yolk.. I don't wanna starve him to death :( |

if your going the live route then it needs to be a rat fluff/crawlers or fuzzies, anything bigger will endanger your snakes life, he could get badly bitten by the mouse. |

if you follow the advice that was sent to me it might work, if not then come back..remember he is only a baby and everything is scary for him now...
the person that sold him to you should not have sold him without him being an established feeder, by that i mean the snake having at least eaten three times.
It is irresponsible. |

Alright wolf, I'll follow it :)
Steps 1 & 2 are now done; and I've moved him under the bed in his new home.
Is that all alright? I've put in 16 holes dotted around the top for air - Is that enough or will he suffocate? :x And I'll try to feed him a pinky rat next week :)

that looks great, just keep an eye on the temps and leave him well alone now,
only go in to change his water nothing else.
one other thing, do you have any idea of his weight when you got him?
If he does not feed next week, (which he might nto with being moved again), i would weigh him.
Good luck and please keep us posted how this goes -) |

Good luck, I would add that the hides don't look 'low-profile', the low-profile one doesn't really want to be much if any taller than the snake, hence the suggestion for a plant pot saucer. |

Alright - I'll try again next week; and weigh him if he doesn't eat But fingers crossed :)
Yeh, they're not really low profile - but the only ones I have were all too wide and took up way too much space :/ Would it stress him out too much if I got one tomorrow and changed his house again?

Not if you're going to leave him for a week anyway, he'll have plenty of time to settle in. |

Been watching this thread but have had no experience of dealing with non-feeding babies so nothing worth posting. Just wanted to say good luck fella and keep us posted . |

why dont you get a pair of scissors and try and cut those down a bit...
also if you planning on leaving the food item in there over nite i would use kitchen roll as substrate... |

BE, could those pots not be made lower by cutting them, making sure there are no sharp edges ? |

I was thinking of cutting them down - But won't that make him seem somewhat vulnerable from above? As there will be no cover as such?
Would kitchen roll be a better substrate to use? As I blow-dried them for ages; the substrate never stuck to them.. But I don't want the risk.
Thanks for all your advice :)

cut them from the bottom not the top, he will love it-)
royals like tight spaces helps them feel safe and secure |

i would personally use kitchen roll then there is not danger at all.
it can get quite wet with the saliver the snake produces and could cause bark to stick to it...
cut the the lips of not the bottoms... |

Haha.. I really can't believe I didn't think about cutting them the other way :(
Okay, I've cut them down a bit, and switched to kitchen roll - and I saw him poking his head around the roll just as I put him away ^^
Is that all ok now? :) (The 1p is there for size comparative purposes ^^)
