You should only feed live prey as a last result if your snake not feeding,is your snake not eating and losing weight?
Have a look at this pic and imagine the damage these teeth could do to your snake.

Have you tried scenting? Rubbing the frozen thawed rat/mouse against used rodent bedding to make it smell appealing to the snake?

Have you tried fresh-killed?

Or offering a F/T straight after a live?

If you've bought it before, why can you not anymore?

How old are they and how long have they been on live?

Hiya Blackecho

No i must admit have not tryed fresh-killed i have just had live to put in there they are both on Live rat pups at the mo which is working out really good they eat within seconds bang and straight on them. The place where i normally get them from has not got any this week its the second time he has had none so wondered if there was any other places i could get some live food really.I will convert them to defrosted as soon as they get a bit bigger the lemon pastel is about 20 weeks old and the albino is about 14 weeks old and both doing well

Cheers Danny

Yes, but did Glenn hatch them or import them, the only reason I ask is that quite a lot of American breeders feed live and the imports can be difficult to swap over.

However, with Glenn's reputation I would be surprised that he sold live feeding only Royals. Did he suggest the live feeding?

So i spoke to glenn and he said come in with it and he will have a look for me see if he can help and he did help and ever since then they have been on live food and doing well

I would try all options before live feeding. Its not that i am against it (to me snake comes first) but i would have thought rat pups are relatively harmless and dont put up a fight. but when you get to weeners and above they have well formed teeth and claws and i presume will put up alot more of a fight which could cause alot of damage to your royal.

Why when they get bigger, the longer you leave them on live the harder the transfer over will be.

I'd suggest trying fresh-killed next feed, give it a wiggle with some tongs and make it appear live.

I would cut its nose off or brain it...

i know it sounds awful but the smell of blood might help...

i would do one or the other. just take off a little bit of its nose, or slice straght in to its skull so you can see the brain.

might be easier to do this when its frozen. Its some thing to do with the scent that make them more appealing.

or pop down your local rep shop and get either day old chicks or gerbils and try them.

IMO Ideally you want to be on rats cos when a royal is fully grown 1 large rat should be enough as a meal.

Gerbils are a royals chocolate.

DOC's i used just to get her eating something.
