hi i have had my python for a week now and want to start getting her out tomorrow. but when i change her water or look for mess in her viv she has a hisssss at me and looks as if she is going to strike at me i dont know if she would... am i best to leave her for abit longer or could this make things worse in the long run and i would be best to get her out for 5 mins.. i dont really know her and and just need to build abit of trust and show her i wont hurt her. what do you think i should do?? i dont want to stress her out...

If she hisses at you just show her you're not afraid and scoop her up, don't come from above her though.
When you lift her, don't keep her out for ages, just a few minutes so she can start to understand you're not a threat.
Do that every so often and she should start to calm down a bit. :D

Yeah try it every couple of days then gradually build it up.
They can give a decent bite yeah, mostly depending on their size and obviously power, but power comes with size although I'm pretty sure it's not life threatening. :)

I agree with Brent09, if she gets to thinking that hissing makes you leave her alone she'll continue to do it. You could try wearing gloves at first if it makes you feel better.

Here's a thread on the Dark Side by a guy who got bitten by a 10 foot boa which weighs about 30kg. Bear in mind that this a very large snake, and that boas hit hard when they strike. Obviously your royal's bite would be proportionately smaller. The bite is just visible in the second pic, so it looks like all three were taken post-chomp. You can see how scared he looks!

BE is right ive had a worse bite from my gerbil. as for wearing gloves dont get in the routine of wearing them because you will never take them off whilst handling.

honestly now a 3 1/2 yr old python wont hurt much like BE said its just the shock and quickness of the snake that put people off.

I agree with the rodent bite, I'd rather have 10 Royal bites than one hamster one!
